*Earth’s ingredients are fairly typical

A new study looking at material around distant stars suggests Earth’s ingredients are fairly typical. The findings are based on spectroscopic observations of 18 different planetary systems around white dwarfs up to 456 light years away.

*Astronomers blown away by historic stellar blast

Astronomers have used light echoes to study a 170-year-old stellar eruption which briefly produced the second brightest star in Earth’s skies – outshone only by the Sun. The spectacular explosion was created by a nearby binary star system known as Eta Carinae.

*Opportunity remains silent

There’s still no word from NASA’s heroic little Mars rover Opportunity. Oppy went silent on June 10 as the red planet was enveloped in a global dust storm.

*Indonesia launches new satellite

SpaceX have launched a new Indonesian Telecommunications satellite using the new Block 5 version of their Falcon 9 rocket.
