28: Mysterious Signals from the Galactic Centre

*Mysterious signals from the galactic centre  Astronomers have discovered that a mysterious gamma-ray signal being emitted from the centre of the Milky Way galaxy is most likely being generated by rapidly spinning neutron stars. The findings solve a long standing mystery about the origins of these strange signals. 

*Is the Milky Way galaxy getting bigger New research suggests the Milky Way Galaxy is getting bigger. The findings indicate that the galaxy is expanding by a rate of about half a kilometre per second. 

*Could life exist in the clouds of Venus Scientists are speculating as to whether life could exist in the dense atmospheric clouds of Venus. The hypothesis follows the discovery of microbial life in Earth’s atmosphere. 

*Virgin Galactic completes first powered test flight Richard Branson says Virgin Galactic will soon be back on schedule following the successful completion of the first powered test flight of the VSS Unity spacecraft. The flight came two and a half years after the fatal mid-air break-up that destroyed the VSS Enterprise. 

*Ariane 5 DSN-1/Superbird-8 LAUNCH An Ariane 5 rocket has placed two new telecommunications satellites into orbit. 

*SpaceX launches ten Iridium satellites SpaceX has launched another ten Iridium-Next communications satellites aboard a Falcon-9 rocket. The mission was the fifth launch of ten satellites for Iridium which is building a new 75 satellite constellation for its expanding satellite phone business.
